How Applied Abstract Art came to life

Great things are born prematurely and develop gradually…

The incubation period

Unconsciously and semi-consciously, during the year 2008 I started aspiring to simplify the expression of my ideas. In the series Spiridual it is already possible to sense the breeze of abstract, but one that does not compromise the purposefulness the artworks and the conveyance of the messages.

As a note I might add that today, artworks suck as depicted in the series As Humane as Possible feel to me over-saturated with details, over-complex, too colorful, and in general, well…dirty.

Applied Art of driving

I am a person who consumes the world with his eyes. The sense of sight is the most predominant in my case, which is probably why I managed to mess it up so thoroughly when I was 7 years old…but that is another story all together. Anyhow, I was driving to my girlfriend’s residence, vacuuming the mesmerizingly sharp and brilliant scenes and sights of that soft sunny break of day, when a thought suddenly clicked in my mind: “Mondrian applied onto photography”. What that meant was taking the photographs I shoot and enhancing their composition, sharpening their contrast and amplifying their essence using Mondrian’s principles of Abstract. Hence, when a certain line of structure or perspective appears in the photo, enhance it with a strong straight black line, when a certain area seems to be enclosed into a shape by definition of the photo composition, than enhance it by applying one of the three primary colors onto it, etc.
I was so fascinated by this idea and it seemed to me like some sort of a breakthrough of perception.

My first breakthrough was through the treachery of art – Ceci n`est pas findigart

The incubation of Applied Abstract

I went on with my life and with my main business at the time, which was the building of this website, and shared this idea with my girlfriend as well. I though to myself that this is something I should do and that I will probably will do some-when in the unknown future.
One day when working on my website I figured it would be nice to decorate and identify my blog posts with photos, and so I went through my collection and picked a certain photo for one of the posts and… The All Star Pop-Abstract Shoes, the first instance of Applied Abstract Art came to existence.
