The beauty in deep art

The outer shell

What is the importance and value of beauty in art? For example, when a woman walks across the street and someone handsome appears before her, she will consider him to be of the quality and value of beauty and feel attracted to him. Now, say that destiny has brought them together and a relationship has started and lasted for two weeks, 4 weeks, 3 months, a year – what significance will that initial judgment of external beauty still have? After all, naturally if the relationship lasted for more than a one night stand it means that there is a need, a desire, a will to find something deeper than that, some essence, some content, in the most functional aspect possible.

On the other hand, you do not totally disqualify a human being just because you don’t like his appearance, as you do not really believe that you could have not fallen in love with him just because of it, because once you get to know someone, many times you realize that his or her beauty lies within.

The essence

Similarly, liking or disliking the external appearance of a work of art is the least relevant and most superficial judgment of it. A work of art must bear content, purpose, message, meaning; it must cause you to think, to feel, to contemplate, to remember that which is important. Art has a purpose and it is to act as a Currier of messages between the artist and the viewers.
Just the same as you wouldn’t buy some electrical appliance that you don’t need just in order to pose it on top of your kitchen cabinet; a toaster has a purpose, a function without which it becomes worthless and its existence turns vain.

For example the unappealing forced First Time

The essence of the outer shell

Hanging a toaster off your living room wall? Yes, I heard of Marcel Duchamp and I appreciate his depths of mind, but that’s the exact “artistic” bullshit which I despise so much. We want to make art applicable? Than let’s take an everyday appliance and plainly call it “Art”. That way way we also don’t need to work too hard in delivering any content or expressing any technique. Well, I believe that If it does not have a true purpose it’s junk. Junk gets away of things that are really important to you and distracts the mind from focus – be it junk appliances, junk art or junk thoughts. A toaster has it’s own purpose and it’s not artistic, it is a kitchen appliance invented for creating toasts. Same as I don’t use a Picasso to wipe my ass after I take a dump, so also I wouldn’t expect someone to take my fucking fridge and put it in a gallery to the sound of applause by elitist and amazingly shallow bored fart-knockers of pseudo-art.

Reflecting depth from shallowness

However, since we are all still human (yes, me too), we are all subordinate to the deeper impulses of the superficial perception and this is not just a vain game of words. So, I personally, need that outer shell of hers to be such which will initially attract me. From there, the potential of getting to know each other to a deeper level is much greater than it would have been, had I found her unattractive to begin with.

And so, we are attracted to beauty – it stimulates our minds and might even attract us to subjects that would normally not have interested us. So the way I see it, the only reason for a work of art to be externally appealing would be to attract people to it from that level inwards, into it’s depths, to make them want to stay and learn more about it, to get to know it.

How deep it turns out to find out that There is art in my Ego

Nevertheless, what would you have done had you met some beautiful woman or man, just to find out later that they are vapid and superficial, boring and empty, ordinary and uninspiring? I can only assume that you wouldn’t have continued the relationship with them, just as I know I would never pay for something of that nature to be hanged of my living room wall.

Interacting with art

So basically, anyone who seeks for greater depth than is offered by the external appearance of people is one that also seeks that same depth in other aspects of life and can be trusted to seek it also when it comes to art. You need not “understand” art in order to understand it. You just have to be a deepening individual. And just the same as with the acquaintance of people – they have to interact and talk in order to get to know each other – so also with art; it needs to deliver something which will be the equivalent of the sensual experience people have together, no doubt, but it also needs to be explained.

And just as with any sincere and truthful human interaction in day-to-day life – it lasts as long as you are both interested in it and gain something from it – you don’t have to be there, you want to. And since you can not fuck a work of art, there is really nothing for you to get from a superficial one…

The truth

On the one hand, I do art which is very non-immediate. Those who haven’t got the patience to delve into it, will probably won’t understand it, and if they won’t understand they will probably find it difficult to see the beauty in it. On the other hand, I myself experience the mere gratification of the senses as “reason” enough to suppress and avoid the simple fact: it is purposeless and distracts from the essence which is constant meditative and spiritual awareness.
The truth is I preach for that which I only hope to gain and fear of not having.

I’ll demonstrate that with an example: All Star Pop-Abstract Shoes
