Conceptual Abstract Art

Conceptual Abstract Art - Tsunami Road

Conceptual Abstract Art specializes in simplifying the visualization of deep contemplation and it’s content-oriented expression. It aims to manifest the infinity of spiritual, emotional and intellectual strata of existence as a visual Morse code, and awaken the observer spiritually and intellectually, in the effort to cause him to pursue the aspiration embodied in the artwork.

The focus of Conceptual Abstract Art

In Conceptual Abstract Art I do not try to express themes and formations of nature, but only urban and artificial views and scenery. I focus on the hand made rather than of the Creation of God. And why? Because I feel that Conceptual Abstract Art should not and does not aim at becoming just another Cubism, that’s entire interest lies in solving “artistic” problems which relate to the common man less than last year’s snow, and their essence involves artsy folly and personal mannerism. I try to touch something bigger.

I try to amend the unbearable and inconceivable ugliness that Man inflicts on the world and forces upon existence. The modern man in this day and age, is crude, rude, foul, narrow-minded, shallow, fixated and stupid. Shot out from an unrestrained and desire-driven mind, Man performs actions that are impulsively close to instinctive.

Capital Power…

…with zero thought and capacity to aspects of harmony, aesthetics, ecology and the benefit of the many. This is manifested in today’s architecture, for example, that even in places that have a lot of money, it is dull, painfully uninspiring, intrusive, aggressive, unbalanced and often destructive to its surroundings. It is if there has been made a conscious effort to contradict and destroy the harmony of creation and to leave behind nothing but large concrete phalluses with glass condoms on them.

Such are the Ego’s of those who requested for these monuments to be built – Strictly proud, arrogantly erect, pompously uncompromising, self-destructive and shamelessly abusive, and totally and utterly fragile. To think that this was actually someone’s effort to create beauty, art, architecture makes me truly sad. A classic example of that is the Burj Dubai.

My own weaknesses take shape as The Man and The Vision arise…

lowercase poverty

In places and situations where money is not abundant these same weaknesses of mind manifest as the flip-side of Ego – Wretchedness, which reveals the shortage, sickness and degeneration.

Again this shows in architecture and structures, which deform even the general idea of aesthetics and almost completely betray the loyalty to finishing. Indeed they do not presume and pretend to be aesthetic as Burj Dubai sinfully does, but they also do not embody even the minutest trace of Faith, inspiration, vision or serenity. A mere attempt to survive without capacity and recognition of the spiritual aspect of life.

Spirituality and wealth

Faith, vision, inspiration and serenity do not rely on wealth. You do not have to be rich to have Faith, you do not need to study at Oxford to have inspiration, you do not have to pour 3 billion dollars onto a building to manifest vision, and you certainly do not have to drive 24 karat gold plated Mercedes to know serenity.

These qualities are related to the capacity of the mind to finer frequencies of existence, the true appreciation of beauty that can be derived only from Love and compassion. This broader and deeper mind will infuse its intrinsic high and lofty qualities into the corporeal world and the spheres of creation. That kind of mind reveals rather than creates, this beauty of the world which God has Created, it makes use of what is and does not try to force that which is not. It is harmonious and therefore manifested as harmony. Conceptual Abstract Art tries to abide by these notions and better that which would otherwise be doomed to remain ugly.

Spirituality and Conceptual Abstract Art

Conceptual Abstract Art is in face the art of transcending the existing external expressions of mundane into a different sphere of visualization. Trying to apply the harmony, cleanliness and sublime nature of the abstract onto everyday scenery and experiences. Trying to bridge between the ultimate and the relative, the inner peace and the outer shell of physical pain, the truth and the expression of it. Trying to make the world a better place.

Inspiration and sympathy coincided, vision and love infused, harmony and practice merged, limitations of corporeality transcended into aesthetics. I use Conceptual Abstract Art in order to show myself the beauty in the wretchedness that Man inflicts upon this world, because I myself am also addicted to this wretchedness. My own Ego’s sickness is addicted to that wretchedness. I am attracted to it like flies to shit.

Conceptual Abstract Art – Example #2
Conceptual Abstract Art - Me, Myself and I

So perhaps I am trying to show to myself first, the beauty, the harmony, the divinity that exists even in the wretchedness of Man, and in the corporeal realization and productive reflection of this spiritual unsightliness.

Same as meditation, where the observation without reaction exposes the innate nature of phenomenon, so does conceptual abstract takes scenery and experiences that are mostly regarded as ugly, and simplifies them in order to extract the infinite, the deeper, purer and cleaner out of them – their absolute. And the absolute is simply what it is, and therefore it has to be beautiful.

The absolutes of Conceptual Abstract Art

That which is absolute is that which is basic, the deepest manifestation of the intrinsic nature of phenomenon. The basic is the three primary colors: Red, Yellow and Blue and the two non-colors: Black and White.
That which is basic is uni-valued and at the same time varied, it is comprised of infinite strata. The Basic radiates immediate vitality and at the same time conceals a secret which is revealed only after extended observation.

And what is that secret? The abstracted/simplified conceptual and ideological definitions and perceptions, as the realization of harmony between the relative (figurative) and the absolute (abstract). Those conceptual and ideological definitions and perceptions can be those fixated in the collective consciousness, or ones that are more abstract by nature, such as spiritual themes.

Generally, each artwork takes some concept or theme and simplifies it’s acceptable figurative definition down to what you might call: a Mondrian-like abstract. At times there is an aware aiming or just lack of resistance to the depiction of perspectives of depth, and the game between

The concept: Corporeal death, Abstract art

I know to say all that, here in the parking lot of the old cemetery where my grandparents on my mother’s side are buried. I know to say all that after seeing my mother getting out of the car and walking into the cemetery, occasionally loosing her balance due to her sickness and pain. I know to say all that, here where the sense of my mom’s death and my own death hovers behind my left shoulder, and floods tremendous sadness and grief in my mind…but also a lot of inspiration and a strong determination not to concede to the Ego’s wretchedness.

It is good to have a new rise in abstract art. I have been a very avid fan of art and I have seen the decline of abstract art in some places. Its good to have it back with different meanings incorporated into them. This would give more people the will to express what they want.

    Hello Maria,
Indeed there something…I would even say: “Important” in abstract art. Things have to remain simple, and yet, just like a language, they have to say something. Mondrian and De Stijl paved the way for presenting art which is minimal, yet to me it did not mean much. I wanted to actually TALK with art, hence: The Manifest for Applied Abstract Art… Yet, I am still searching for the right “mix” of things.
I thank you for your comment. :)
