Pop Abstract Art applications

Pop Abstract art is dedicated to bringing the shallower aspects of our existence, usually, but not necessarily, those that are symbolized by our beloved brands, trademarks and icons, such as: Nike, Coca-Cola, McDonald’s, Michael Jackson, etc. Take All Star shoes for example, in the artwork All Star Pop Abstract Shoes. Pop Abstract art could also make use of everyday items, such as a telephone, a plate, a chair etc.

Branding and Pop Abstract Art

The idea of branding is to turn a name and/or image/shape to something that is catchy and immediate, something that does not require a perceptual and intellectual process of recognition, and that you might say have tuned into the deeper frequencies of instinct. For example, when I see this yellow in this particular shape, I recognize McDonald’s even before I recognize the letter M. That said, pop abstract artworks could at times serve as commercial ads to their thematic brands.

Fun Pop, Immediate Abstract

Having said all that, Pop Abstract Art many atimes focuses on the brand, or it is simply the only figurative element in the artwork. Contrary to Conceptual Abstract Art, no deeper meanings or particular message are conveyed here, beyond the underlying theme of applied abstract art in general: to transcend the mundane towards the supra-mundane using modified Mondrian’s abstract principles.
