A Preface to Spiritual Purification

Dead-end life

Spiritual purification is the only way out from the existential suffering, that actually manifests the uncertainty which encompasses the fear of death and the horrifying lack of knowledge as to what will follow it.
Most of us are as marionettes imprisoned in their little worlds, enslaved to their dark ignorance, ruled by base and vulgar desires, opposing forces and contradictory interests. Intimidated, we flee from the decreasing remaining of our lives, forcibly drifted upon towards the inevitable end, while we occupy ourselves with the suppression of our existential suffering, by doing this or that in order to achieve one thing or the other.

Passage to infinity

A large space within infinity (the totality of the artwork) is occupied by our numerous life cycles which embody and reflect that ignorance (the black scene), and the process of introversion towards a more investigative and balanced state of mind is extremely slow. This process from its very beginning and until its very end (white scene), is the intermediate stage between an eternity of ignorance to an infinity of wisdom (the gray scene).

The preface to any spiritual purification will always include Morality 5

Dormant Spirituality (black scene)

Fear and passion

Fear (primary color yellow) and passion (primary color red) are the most powerful forces of the universe. They constitute the nature of our conditioned mind. These forces nourish and intensify themselves constantly (complementary colors green and purple), and emerge out from abstractness by the realization into our daily lives situations. Fear and passion are therefore the essence imprinted into every aspect of life and death.
When we are not aware enough to understand all that, our superficial and darkened existence is not being balanced by any deep spiritual awareness and insight, and therefore becomes the primal experience from which derives our outlook upon life, as well as the nature, depth and quality of the remaining of our experiences in life.

Uncertainty

The ruthless face of uncertainty chases us incessantly and it is only natural that in our panic-blinded flee we will not pay attention to the hurt and destruction we cause others who are fleeing from that same face, especially when these others are positioned lower in the corporeal status than we are. We will also not be able to pay attention to the course of our escape and to the different obstacles that God places in our way in order to divert us from the dead-end path of ignorance.

The role of sensual pleasures

In such a world, the only element which can comfort us is the gloomy light of sensual pleasures and asset-chasing, which minutes by many folds in comparison to the darkness surrounding us. Metaphorically, that is the familiar, the known, the symbol of our behavioral habits and fixated thought patterns, which we cultivate in order to provide ourselves with the illusion of a comforting safe shelter. These are symbolized by the table (asset) and the lamp on top of it.

The death of the ignorant

A day will come, when all this will suddenly end as always, and we will feel just for a moment in time – that short moment in between the end of the dying process and the beginning of a new life – that we had missed the wisdom of Creation and the essence of being alive. These are symbolized by the skull, also opposite to life’s direction, as well as by the exclamation mark of momentary wisdom (blue).

So dormant it could be at times, just Like death with a beating heart

The Process of Spiritual Purification Begins (gray scene)

Experiencing changes

A holy Tibetan saint once said: “If you have to think of something at all, think about the uncertainty of the time of your death”. And indeed, fewest of the few, but increasingly more of us in this day and age, are ripened enough to direct mind resources and spiritual energy towards the essence. One who invests even a portion of his time into meditation and spiritual awareness and contemplation (the meditative blue eyes of wisdom and the posture of the head) is preparing for the time of his death and begins to experience more simplicity, openness, balance and harmony in his everyday life, as his mind strips away from conflicts of conditioning.

Establishing the process of spiritual purification

His body apparently reacts and shapes according to the new frequencies generated by his mind (parallel non-conflicting body lines, simplified bodily organs and extremities, noticeable order in the colors). The dead-end uncertainty has turned into an investigation of the question of life and death (the correct symbolism of the question mark, which contains the simplified skull as the symbol of death of the more aware being). The entire process of spiritual purification is, in fact as simple as childish handwriting…

Extras on the set of spiritual purification

I personally feel many times, that being in such an intermediate state turns me into a stranger of both worlds: that of the unaware corporeality I had already left long ago, but into that of pure spirituality I have yet to enter entirely. I am forced to remind myself that all those who are unwittingly harming me in different ways and stepping on my toes in the passion of their obsessive escape towards the accumulation of status and wealth, are actually immeasurably smaller than I am, and that is the reason for them doing so; not out of greatness but rather out of weakness they do so, and their roll here is to serve as extras on a set – all designed for me in my battle out from this bondage.

The death of the spiritual pursuer

I believe that when the time of death comes to such a person, he experiences it as something more constructive, which provides him with answers which were hidden from him at the time of his life (the white period symbol). He then learns a lesson, as he deserves according to the caliber and capacity of his mind, derived from the sincerity and amount of his spiritual efforts, and moves forward on the path of taking another birth so that he can continue with the efforts of purifying his mind, and thus to progress on the path towards full liberation, Full Enlightenment.

Spiritual Purification Complete (white scene)

Absolute Certainty

Those who have already fulfilled their spiritual vocation in this world, are no longer in a state of conflict and existential suffering. They are the Saints, facing the Known, the Complete – God. This is no longer a war against threatening uncertainty, but rather a harmonious dynamics between the relative and the absolute (disintegrated bodily organs). God is present everywhere as a bright luminance of love and security, He penetrates and dissolves the boundaries of mind and matter (open and empty extremities) and the being is flooded completely to the extent of needing nothing more.

Absolute Freedom

Man now experiences the nature of the complete wisdom of the mind (head flooded with blue), beyond the world of phenomenon, beyond the relativity of space and time. His passions and fears have poured outside of his mind and are floating faded and detached in the all-encompassing spaciousness of infinity without leaving any residue on his mind. The physical boundaries of his body are the last remnant of corporeality to be shed in this death, His last.

Absolute Wisdom

The Saint is a master of the world; He breaks out from it and into the absolute presence of the infinite. There are neither more questions nor answers, but only the constant wisdom of the knowledge of knowing, of mere Knowingness, experienced every moment in the present (the white period with the mind of wisdom).

Absolute Morality

The presence of wisdom turns from an “outside” momentary flash which appears in the mind, into the inner eyes which guide towards true intelligence and morality, and from there into becoming the totality of the one’s mind.

The visual depiction of that process is portrayed in The Triangle of Spirituality

In conclusion

Habitual patterns

we are all escaping and we are all doing so in the same manner. We are all trampling others and are doing so even more when our status in the world improves. It is more comforting and comfortable to suppress fear by translating it to misanthropy and justifying that with excuses in the form of: “I’m successful because I’m smart and they’re not because they’re stupid”.

A desire for self-destruction

Nevertheless, I feel that despite the strong color contrast, the threatening atmosphere and the sense of distressing inconvenience which arise in me from seeing the black scene, it is precisely that scene which makes me feel mostly “at home” and the sense of something familiar, of closeness and empathy or on the other hand that sense of addictive burdensome which bursts into flames within the stomach when the roller-coaster is rushing down a sharp slope. It is rather that peace and harmony which seems to me strange and awkward. Do you share that feeling as well?

The moment of absolute reflection

Well, if that is the reaction of our minds to a framed picture within that safe little world of ours, you can only try and imagine the reaction that will stir up within us when infinity will pierce through. I am fearful but optimistic, and you?
