Via Dolorosa of the Modern Age
Via Dolorosa – God’s Art
The Via Dolorosa was actually Jesus Christ’s attempt to amend the crimes of humanity. His suffering was dedicated with all the love and compassion to the very lost souls who were tormenting Him. I feel that the entire happening is actually God’s symbol – this portrayal of a Holy Man in tremendous suffering which could only be matched by the misery of the entire humanity, was the visual He used. This is the misery of each of us, wherever we are. The vicissitudes of life are the Via Dolorosa of each and every one of us.
Liberation via Dolorosa
To me this is also a reminder, to that in every era there is at least one man, that despite the prevailing social and cultural consensus of his time, despite his overwhelming fears of loneliness and difficulty and despite his intense doubts pertaining to the purpose of his existence and the way to achieve it, he embarks on a route-less and endless journey.
Diligently, patiently, sorrowlessly and relentlessly he will investigate the depths of His mind and purify all the conditioning, perceptions, thought mechanisms, karmas, past and future, to remain a Master of the present moment, Ruler of the mind, Unite with all and constantly in communion with the eternal and ultimate reality.
Often such a person will be ostracized from society or be at least regarded as strange and odd, to say the least. Many will unite against him in the name of their terrified fear and as always only a handful of people will be ripened enough as to listen to the wisdom of his Teachings and to see the luminance of the eternal truth shining through Him – a truth and liberation which were achieved in return for all those renunciations which they will never be able to endure.
Via Dolorosa – A Vision of Christ
This art piece was inspired by looking at an electric post in a green field from within my car. I leaned over to see the top of the post and thought to myself, that modern electric posts are not usually built like that. The horizontal bar looked just like human arms… immediately a picture of Jesus Christ came to my mind, crucified over this post, along with the philosophical and theoretical concept of the art work. I took out my camera and perpetuated the sight.
Many atimes, perhaps especially when it comes to art, I feel inspiration as the direct presence of God – nothing less than that.
